Harvest Moon Natural Foods Co-op is an exciting new grocery store/market located in the heart of Orono/Long Lake. It offers wholesome and organic foods and products - many from local producers - as well as all the things you count on from your grocery: a meat department, deli, take-out pre-prepared meals, even a coffee bar. Unlike what you may have heard, we are not a fruit-and-vegetable market; it’s the whole enchilada! Not only does Harvest Moon supply your family’s food needs, it is a wonderful community hub for people to gather.

Our Commitment: To grow, gather and give.
Harvest Moon was founded on these core commitments, all even more true today than when the inspiration of a local food co-op first sprouted in 2006:
  • TO GROW a local market offering fresh, quality, nutritious food, supporting a healthy and connected community.
  • TO GATHER a harvest of naturally grown foods, unique products, caring people, cultural exchanges, friendly services and healthful events - all under one roof.
  • TO GIVE back by living gently with our environment, offering leadership and education that inspires healthy living and creates connections in a spirited community hub - where each visit is a delightful experience.

Harvest Moon Hires General Manager, Peter Doolan
We are thrilled to let you know that our General Manager, Peter Doolan, started full time with Harvest Moon on January 11, 2010. Peter comes to Harvest Moon from the Linden Hills Co-op in Minneapolis, where he spent the past 12 years. As the person charged with all aspects of running Harvest Moon, he brings exactly the experience, know-how and enthusiasm we need to ensure a successful launch of our community market.

As you can imagine Peter has his hands more than full between now and store opening in June, but we hope to slow him down long enough to do a proper "get to know Peter" piece in an upcoming Harvester newsletter. Stay tuned!

Meet our new team members! They are preparing for the store opening in June 2010.

    Robin O’Rourke
    Financial Manager
"I am so excited to become part of the Harvest Moon Family. As a long term resident of Long Lake I am thrilled to be an integral part of opening the doors to this much anticipated cooperative. I truly look forward to being involved with the long term success of Harvest Moon." Robin really enjoys small business finance and all the diversity the job brings with it. She has worked as a Controller in various businesses for many years, most recently as the Controller for SC Acquisition.

    Kari Pastir-Smith
    Marketing/Member Services/HumanResources Manager
Karihas been very involved in the start-up of our Co-op, and is now excited to join the store team. "I am so proud to part of the community asset that we are building! I am very excited to open our store to provide local, fresh, whole food; as well as support education, health and wellness. I look forward to working with our member/owners, and connecting Harvest Moon with local partners and resources." Kari loves digging in the dirt, and believes there is nothing better for heart, soul and body, than eating fresh food, straight from the garden. She brings a career background in HR Training, Marketing and Communications; most recently as a Consultant.

    Matt Ryan
    Grocery Manager
I have been working in coops for over six years and have always enjoyed the spirit and innovation that is enmeshed in this world. My most recent adventure was at Cook County Whole Foods Coop on Lake Superior’s north shore as the Grocery Manager. Harvest Moon provides me with an exciting new opportunity, both as a brand new coop and a larger store, which I cannot wait to tackle. In my free time I enjoy hiking, baseball, hockey and music (both listening and playing).

    Betsy Webster
    Deli, Meat and Cheese Manager
I am so excited to be a part of Harvest Moon. I cannot wait to create incredible, healthy and wholesome foods to share with a great community. I worked in Wayzata at Gianni’s Steakhouse for over 9 years and grew to love this area and the people. I have been in the food industry for 16 years and now I am proud to use ingredients that I strongly believe are better for all of us. I feel so lucky to support our local farmers and friends, while enjoying a great career. I can’t wait to meet more of you and see those familiar faces as I welcome you to the Moon!

    Auralie Haven
    Health and Body Care Manager
It is a rare thing for a new co-op to open, and I am delighted to being given the opportunity to share my passion for supplements, body care products and general well being. I have been working in the natural foods industry for 8 years, though I have been living the lifestyle since childhood. As the manager of HBC I will bring my broad knowledge of supplements and body care, and my enthusiasm for people to the Harvest Moon. I can’t wait to start the information sharing and community building.

    Sue Schloner
    Front End Manager
I have worked in corporate America for 20 years and I am very excited about being apart of this thriving communities grocery coop. During my journey these first few weeks with Harvest Moon Natural Foods I have spent time with a variety of coop employees. The camaraderie from one location to another has been infectious. We at Harvest Moon Natural Foods are dedicated to provide the community with healthy foods and a welcoming environment to shop. I look forward meeting all of you and assisting you in any way I can.

    Hilary Johnson
    Produce Manager
I have spent nearly 8 years working produce at Seward Co-op, much of it as assistant manager of the department. I love working with produce, especially the fresh smells and color of all the fruits and vegetables. I have served on the boards of the Domestic Fair Trade Association and the Local Fair Trade Network, and volunteered with KFAI and the Trylon Microcinema. As a co-op partisan, I look forward to a cooperative economy in our future.

    Gabriel Burns
    Meat and Cheese Manager
I am very excited to be taking on the manager position at Harvest Moon Co-op. I have worked for several co-ops in the twin cities area, most recently as a buyer and butcher at the Seward Co-op in Minneapolis. I also grew up shopping at co-ops with my family, so it has always been a part of my life. In my new position here I look forward carrying on the co-op principles and supporting the systems of farming that uphold the tiers of sustainability. I am also excited to meet all the new faces that will help to grow this new community hub! Cheers!
